Nottingham Forest settle for a point at the City Ground as Gibbs-White scores against his former club

Ronnie Langhorne reports from The City Ground

Nottingham Forest had to settle for a point at the City Ground against Wolverhampton Wanderers as Morgan Gibbs-White took home the headlines for his excessive celebrations.

Matheus Cunha opened the scoring, with Gibbs-White and Danilo turning the game around. However, Cunha found a leveller just after the hour to condemn Forest to a point.

The draw leaves Forest, who head to relegation-threatened Everton next week, a point clear of the drop zone. Wolves who have six left to play are left seven points off sixth position.

Despite a fast start for relegation-threatened Forest, Murillo had to be alert on the line to deny Joao Gomes the opener. The centre-back’s clearance was only as far as Pablo Sarabia, who could only fire wide.

In a game rich in recent history, Wolves hit the front after 40 minutes through a sensational Matheus Cunha solo goal. After picking the ball up in his own half, Cunha managed to wriggle inside two men into the area, before smashing past Matz Sels.

Wolves were unable to hold their lead for long however as former player Morgan Gibbs-White, who has a history with the Wolves faithful, met Giovanni Reyna’s corner at the near post and headed across goal, giving Sa no chance. The midfielder didn’t hold back on his celebrations either, running up to the away support and hitting his signature celebration.

Forest showed real intent to win the game after the restart and got their reward on 57 minutes. Gibbs-White was the star of the show again, playing a one-two with Wolves defender Matt Doherty before feeding Danilo, who slotted past Sa at the near post.

As was the case in the first-half, the score was levelled within a matter of minutes. The set piece woes continued for the reds as Cunha turned home following a scramble inside the six-yard box, awarding Wolves a point on the road.
