Sheffield United Community Women defeat Chesterfield Women infront of stellar crowd

Tom Morris reports from SMH Group Stadium

Amelia Healey’s second-half brace saw Sheffield United Community Women defeat Chesterfield Women 2-1 infront of a big crowd.

A lovely sunny day saw over 1,000 supporters attend the SMH Group Stadium for Chesterfield Women vs Sheffield United Community Women.

Lexi Butterworth’s first-half goal may have lulled Chesterfield Women into a false sense of security, against a side who had only won once all season before visiting the SMH Group Stadium.

The first big chance fell to Butterworth who fired over from a tight angle after she was played through by Chloe Foster produced an excellent solo dribble before finding Butterworth.

Butterworth converted her second chance after 23 minutes, with a run through the Sheffield United defence before slotting past Lola Jones into the back of the net inside the far post, which saw the hosts go into the break leading 1-0.

Just 6 minutes after the restart, a quick counter attack, that was finished off by Healey, levelled the score line for Sheffield United against the run of play.

A massive chance fell for Chesterfield Women to go back in front in the 55th minute as Abbie Greaves’ free-kick was crossed towards Jones in goal whose poor punched clearance fell to Lucy Graham, who smashed her shot over from inside the six-yard box.

Sheffield United did go in front just prior to the hour mark, again through Healey, finishing off from close range after Rhianne Carroll parried a shot directly into the path of Healey to put Sheffield United into the lead.

Chesterfield Women will host York Railway Institute Ladies in two weeks’ time as they look to recover from this defeat.

Sheffield United Community Women will look to build upon their second win of the league season as they travel to Altofts Ladies on Sunday, May 12.
