Nuno pleased with Forest’s ‘disciplined & aggressive’ triumph over Hammers

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo admitted his delight at his team’s ‘disciplined and aggressive’ display, as they dispatched West Ham 2-0.

“We played a good game,” he said. “We covered every single ball. Knowing when we have to be practical, compact and aggressive in our box and on set-pieces is important. We know how good West Ham are at those.”

Taiwo Awoniyi, who scored the first goal of the game, went off injured in the second half. The Forest boss believes the striker’s efforts after returning to the first-team picture may be to blame.

Nuno said: “We have to assess him and see how he is. We all know he has been struggling for a long time, and hadn’t played much.

“We have pushed him, and he’s done more than he should have. We hope it’s nothing serious.”

There was a controversial decision in the second half as a penalty was not being awarded to Forest, something that agitated the fans. Since the club recently hired Mark Clattenberg as a referee analyst, Nuno was asked if he could help with situations like this.

He said: “What we expect is an expert like him to give us a clear view of what’s happening.

“I can admit that the referee might not have seen it, but when you have VAR, it’s so obvious. So, what I expect from Mark is to at least give me an explanation.”

Callum Hudson-Odoi continued his excellent form, scoring in three games in a row for the first time in his career, and Nuno gave everyone an insight into why he is playing so well.

“Playing more and more is when the talent starts to show. A lot of things are still to come because we expect a lot from our players.”
