Bournemouth narrowly win at Molineux as officiating takes centre stage

James Haley reports from Molineux

Antoine Semenyo’s first-half goal was enough to earn all three points despite a disallowed goal as Bournemouth beat Wolves 0-1 at the Molineux.

The win for Bournemouth sees them climb to 45 points in the Premier League, one point off of their record points total in the Premier League.

Whereas any chance of Wolves qualifying for European football next season is probably ruled out, being seven points off with four games to go.

Bournemouth started the brighter of the two teams as Antoine Semenyo’s shot from the edge of the box was tipped away by Jose Sá.

Wolves’ captain Max Kilman was involved in an attacking sense as he intercepted a Bournemouth pass and found Pablo Sarabia, whose shot was palmed away by Mark Travers.

Bournemouth would continue having the majority of the possession which led to a chance for Milos Kerkez in the box after an excellent flick from Justin Kluivert, but the shot was saved.

The away side almost took the lead as a mistake from the returning Nelson Semedo was capitalised on by Kluivert, but Sá was there once again to deny Bournemouth the opening goal.

The Cherries would eventually take the lead in the 36th minute as a cross from Kerkez was poorly defended by Wolves and pounced on by Semenyo, who tapped in from close range.

Bournemouth continued to have the majority of the chances in the game as Marcos Senesi drove towards goal and rifled a shot which deflected off Kluivert, which was matched by some great reactions from Sa.

Wolves thought they had equalised in the 65th minute after a cross from Nélson Semedo found Hwang Hee-chan, who headed in excellently but a foul in the build-up meant that referee Stuart Attwell had to rule it out after going to the monitor.

The home side would have a decision go for them in the 80th minute as Kerkez was sent off for a reckless challenge on Matt Doherty, forcing the visitors to finish the game a man down.

Wolves continued to try and get back into the game but, in the end, it would be Semenyo’s first-half goal that won the game for Bournemouth.

Wolves are at home again on the weekend as they face Luton Town and Bournemouth return to the Vitality Stadium as they face south-coast rivals Brighton.
