Gary O’Neil brandishes Bournemouth performance “worst of the season”

James Haley reports from Molineux

Gary O’Neil criticised the performance of his Wolves side as they lost 0-1 to Bournemouth at the Molineux.

Wolves are now seven games without a win after Antoine Semenyo’s first-half goal was enough to gain all three points for the Cherries.

However, the main talking point of the game was Hwang Hee-chan’s disallowed goal, which was a particularly contentious decision.

The home side have had to train with just ten senior players this week, with key players like Pedro Neto and Craig Dawson being unavailable to O’Neil.

The Wolves manager was critical of his team’s performance, despite the recent injury crisis.

He said: “[It was] probably our worst performance of the season.

“There was too many [players] below their normal level or the level we could reach so far.

“It’s been a tough run; we’ve been training with ten senior players, and we have already gone six without a win.

“Today, there’s no excuse for that first-half performance, regardless of how many injuries we had.”

Speaking on the disallowed goal, O’Neil didn’t pick a side, and focused on games in the future.

He said: “I don’t have any thoughts on it.

“It’s really important that I focus on my team and Wolves.

“I don’t have any thoughts on it and I think everyone else will see the incident and make their own decisions on what they thought on it.

“My focus remains fully on us and trying to be better.”

O’Neil put the poor performance of his side down to sub-par individual performances and an excellent attacking performance from his former side.

“You have days where people are below the level and we had a lot.

“A really strange first-half performance and Bournemouth are in a good spot.”

“If you look at what Solanke, Semenyo and Kluivert were able to give them in attacking sense, they were far more dangerous than what we were able to produce.”

Wolves return to the Molineux on the weekend and look to end their bad run of form as they face relegation-threatened Luton Town.
